Having witnessed one too many senseless deaths, Nikolai, a disillusioned Reaper 3rd Class, resigns his commission with the Angel Forces after a tedious century of gathering souls.

Immediately, another division recruits him with the promise of a more rewarding career, and issues his initial assignments: To bring down a few very dangerous threats to the human race. In the process, Nikolai falls in love with one of his targets–Hope Matheson, a woman who will lead thousands astray.

Caught between conflicting agendas, Nikolai chooses to “fall” from his celestial state and become mortal in order to circumvent angel law and be with her. But for angels and humans alike, things are not always as they appear. Still a target, the threat against Hope’s life intensifies.

Now, in order to save her, Nikolai must rally the last remnants of his failing supernatural abilities to prevent her assassination, as well as the destruction of an entire city by a nuclear terrorist strike. But his time and power are running out…

Nikolai is trapped into relying on mortal instincts and his own moral codes that completely conflict with the assignments given to him as an angel.  As a reaper he is strictly instructed to gather souls but there are a few souls who he can’t bring himself to collect- one being an emotionally battered human named Hope, whose young daughter is one of the souls that Nikolai has already collected.  Falling in love with Hope becomes Nikolai’s down fall as an angel but there is a lot more at stake. As Nikolai becomes more humanly mortal, he is shouldered with the task of saving both Hope and thousands of others as evil forces plan a nuclear attack against them.  Not an easy mission for an angel with waning powers.

Terminus starts us out with the death of Hope’s beloved daughter and Nikolai’s misgivings about gathering her soul for the terminus. I was immediately captured by the emotion of the death of the young girl and how it affected both the mother and the angel. I was fascinated in following this story line further to see if Nikolai would be swayed by his “feelings”.

The only criticism I could find in this work was with the bouncing around to three separate story lines which didn’t, at first, seem to connect in any way. I felt a bit cheated that I was pulled away from learning more about Hope and her daughter- but eventually the stories tied together well and I had a much better understanding of the entire plot.

Joshua Graham is a seasoned writer and author who has already collected a large number of fans- just as Nikolai has collected a large number of souls. Joshua Graham has earned his way onto the best sellers list.

I give Terminus 4 stars.

The planet of Helio is hot. It is the hottest place Hailey has ever been, and she can barely breathe. Not only is Helio the hottest planet in the universe (or so Hailey suspects), it is also about as far from Planeta Three and her prince as she could be. Her coin transported her here for a reason, though. The planet of Helio is run by a tyrannical government, one that terrorizes and controls the people. Her savior, Sarhana, and her family, all live in filth and constant fear. Hailey is here for a reason, and she begins to figure out the reason when she learns that Sarhana’s brother is the leader of The Resistance.

Just a few days after I finished Reincarnation, the first book in this series, I had to pick up this book to find out what was happening with Hailey.  After all she is just a 16 year old girl with literally the whole universe on her shoulders. A few weeks ago she was just a very timid, oppressed teenager trying to make her way through high school. She was bullied by her classmates and abused by her own mother- now she is forced to continue on in her destiny and is given the mission of saving all of the people on the planet of Helio. A very daunting task for such a young school girl.

The battle is approaching and Hailey must decide what she must do. The risks are great but the alternative to going to war is just too painful to think about. She is looking for  the people of Helio to  stand up to the intimidation and abuse and to support her in her quest.  One of the most moving and strong passages in this novel was this:

“A spark was all she needed. A spark of hope, a spark of passion, even a spark of anger, could be nursed into a flame big enough to take down the United Republic of Kridara, and bring forth a new age in which the people no longer lived in fear…”

You’ll have to read the book to see if that spark is lit and what the outcome will be.

Like Reincarnation, this story is extremely well written and even better than the first book- it boils with passion,  emotion, surprises and excitement.  I literally read this book in one sitting- actually going without eating while my stomach grumbled- in order to get to the end of this book!

I have reviewed over 50 books here on The Writers Lounge Blog and this novel easily sits in the top 4 or 5.

I give Revolution a very strong solid 5 stars.

Building an interest in a character is very important if an author wants their audience to continue to read their story and the character interest is elevated even further if they become someone that the reader can relate to.  Hailey is a quietly shy schoolgirl who wants to be liked as everyone else seems to be. Most everyone knows of someone like Hailey and roots for people like her to succeed, amongst the pain and turmoil of a very hard and difficult life.

Just at the peak of what Hailey thought would be the happiest day of her life- going on a date with a very popular boy in school- her world comes crashing down around her and then, almost immediately, she is thrust into a completely new existence- into a world so unlike hers, that it takes her some time to adjust;  not  just in her new surroundings, but as a totally new person.  She soon finds that she isn’t seen as a nerdy, shy quiet school girl anymore- she is treated like royalty by people on this new planet- as a strangely familiar  romance erupts as she finds herself in love with a prince.

Conflict is another tool in an author’s arsenal. If there’s too much the reader will feel overwhelmed, making the story hard to follow and misdirected. Not enough- and the story will go flat with not enough interest.  The author weaves in just the right amount of conflict throughout the story- which holds the readers interest and makes it hard to stop reading.

A good and interesting story with likable characters and absorbing conflict make this a book that I would proudly display on my bookshelf.  It’s sometimes hard to predict where a new author will go after the publishing of their first book- but I will be willing to bet that Alicia Love will be someone who will be known and loved by many as a best selling author in just a few short years.

Buy this book!  It’s a keeper!

I give Reincarnation 5 stars.
